When a court application is needed
One of the most difficult steps for foreigners can be confirming their legal capacity to marry. Depending on the future spouse’s citizenship and the laws of their country of origin, obtaining a certificate of marital status or documented confirmation that there are no obstacles to marriage through a consulate can be difficult or even impossible. In such cases, it may be necessary to apply to a Polish court for an exemption from the obligation to submit the corresponding document to the Polish Civil Registry Office.

Preparing documents for the Civil Registry Office
Once the necessary permitting documents have been obtained, I put together the full document package for submission to the Polish Civil Registry Office. I check the documents before filing and help bring them into line with the Civil Registry Office’s requirements.
Filing the application and getting married
Once the documents are ready, we go together to the Civil Registry Office (Urząd Stanu Cywilnego) to file the notice of intent to marry. If one or both future spouses do not have a sufficient command of Polish, an interpreter may be required for the necessary steps. I can also help arrange for one.
